Winners in my book!

Tonight, Dancing with the Stars crowned another winner....Congrats to JR and Karina!

However, it's not them I want to talk about. I'd like to talk about Ricki Lake and Derek Hough, my favorite dance couple from this season.

I've made no secret on this blog how much of a Derek Hough fan I am. I'll vote for him every time he's on the floor, even if I don't know his partner. This season however, was different. I used to watch Ricki Lake's talk show and was a fan. So, when I heard she was going to be on the show, I was thrilled, when I heard she was partnered with Derek, I knew I was going to LOVE watching this season and I knew who I would be rooting for.

They made me proud every single week and I couldn't wait until the next week to see them dance again! Ricki talked openly about her struggles with her weight and how it affected her self esteem and about how being on the show had changed all that.

Tonight, after they were eliminated (boo!) a video was shown of their journey throughout the last ten weeks and Derek shared that when he first met Ricki she was incredibly self conscious and didn't want to look at herself in the mirror and always kept her head down. He said that throughout the season, gradually she started to lift her head and she just became became a beautiful princess.

As I sat and listened to Derek tell Ricki's story (through tears, I might add), I felt as if he might as well have been talking about me.

My Cerebral Palsy caused one leg to me shorter than the other and because of that I walk with a noticeable limp. A girl on a walker, with a limp. No reason to stare, right?....Yeah, right! People do, and it drives me crazy! Not only that, but CP also causes me to startle easily so I jump at everything (I've said it before, but you never want to go to the movies with me...You'll probably end up with a lap full of popcorn the first time I jump)! Needless to say, I'm REALLY self conscious about these things. Hearing Derek tell Ricki's story and seeing how DWTS has helped her overcome that and become more comfortable with who she is...Honestly, first it broke me. I cried all the way through the montage of footage and the entire commercial break (Yes, I was sad they didn't win, but that WASN'T the reason I was bawling LOL) and second, it inspired me. I was inspired by how open she was and how Derek stuck by her through it all believing in her so much so that he filled their freestyle dance with numerous lifts and tricks that scared Ricki at first but she did it!

It's not a snap of your fingers and presto your filled with confidence...It's a journey and I'm so thankful to have been able to go on this journey with Ricki and Derek this season! It taught me a lot about myself and inspired me as I walk my own journey.

So, Ricki and Derek, if you ever read this....Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you both for simply being the amazing people God made you.

Ricki-You are a winner! That you for your transparency, bravery, and incredible spirit! Keep holding that head up....You are beautiful inside and out!

Derek-Thank you for constantly being someone I am PROUD to root for season after season! No doubt you are an incredible teacher and amazing person!

You both SHINED this season and I'm proud to call myself a Drickilous fan! Thank you once again!

Heaven has gained an Angel....

My dear friend Keith Caldwell has passed away after a brave battle with cancer.

I wrote an entry about Keith HERE a few years ago. He was an inspiration and I'm heartbroken that he is no longer here with us, and I'm sad for the people that never got to know him like I did.

I remember sending him an e-mail in college asking for advice for my performance of literature class and a particularly difficult piece I was going to have to perform. One of his key pieces of advice: "Remember to breathe...." it's now advice that I have fallen back on these last few days as I've dealt with his passing.

I know however that our goodbye is not a permanent one and that we will meet again one day. I smile knowing he has fought the food fight, his race is finished, and he is now TOTALLY HEALED!

Keith will be greatly missed here and the world is a darker place without him in it, but the things he is a part of now in Heaven....WOW!

Rest in peace, sweet friend. Until we meet again...Shine on!

Prayers for Keith's loved ones would be appreciated. Thanks!

Leading by Example

While I was at my volunteer job this past week, some of our music wasn't printing correctly from the cd that had been sent to us from the company. So, our (fairly) new music minister got on the phone with the guy in the office across from me. As I worked, I listened and shot an occasional glance his way.

I was SO proud....He never lost his cool (and believe me there were moment he COULD have). He was patient and friendly for the entire thirty minute conversation....I wanted to run into the office and thank him over and over again for leading by example in that office (I restrained myself, but did e-mail him later).

It was SO refreshing to see someone who claimed to be a Jesus lover prove it by not only saying it, but living it out in this circumstance. And he had no idea I was watching!

THAT, in my opinion, is when you can clearly see where someone stands with their faith...How do you treat people or situations when you THINK no one is watching?

If I learned anything this week it's that people are ALWAYS watching. I hope I'm showing them Jesus!

Scripture Shutdown!

Last night I found myself wishing things were different. More specifically, that everything about ME was different. And I'm not just talking about physically. I basically wanted a whole different PERSON to embody me last night. I was frustrated on a lot of different levels that I'll save for another post perhaps.

I prayed and found myself even frustrated there. I sent off a text to my TX brother (because sometimes you just need some brotherly love...And I hadn't talked to him in awhile) telling him in short concise sentences that I was frustrated and wished everything about me were different. I then threw my phone on the desk and stormed off to the kitchen, not really hungry, but thought the act of opening and slamming cabinet doors in search of food, might help the pent up emotion.

A few minutes later I returned to my room (with no food) and waiting for me was a text message full of encouragement backed up by bible verses that stopped me in my tracks and effectively shut down my pity party. You can't argue stuff the Creator says about you, or at least I didn't want to TRY in that moment.

These are the kind of people I have in my life....People that breathe God into me when I can't seem to find Him on my own. I not only found myself humbled and comforted, but really thankful! The last sentence of the text did me in:

"You are loved and you are perfect."

Perhaps we should ALL let that one sink in!

Time Flies......

The saying, "They grow up so fast" used to cause me to roll my eyes. Until eight years ago. Now, I get it. I totally get it.

Happy Birthday, Alexis!

It's an honor to be your Aunt, and I thank God every single day for that privilege! Words can't describe how much you mean to me. Love you to the moon and back, Ladybug!

Ten Years Ago: I Danced.

Ten years ago today, my sister got married. While it was a day I know SHE will never forget, it also holds a particularly special memory for me as well:

The wedding had been beautiful. I had been honored to stand beside my sister as her Maid of Honor while she pledged her love to the man of her dreams. And now, the reception was in full swing. The dance floor was packed and I watched as my sister enjoyed her first hours as a wife. As I sat there taking everything in and laughing at some joke my younger cousin had just told me, I heard a voice behind me ask, "May I have this dance?" I looked up, thinking someone was asking the person behind me for a dance. Instead, there stood one of our close family friends, his hand out stretched, asking ME to dance.

He and my sister had graduated together, and now, both his parents worked at SHSU where I was in my second year of college. The family had watched me grow up. I'd never been particularly close to their son, because he was my sister's age and ran with her crowd. And yet, here he was, beckoning me to the dance floor.

It was the first time ANYONE had EVER asked me to dance.

I stared and stuttered for a minute, thanking him for being so kind and declined his offer, telling him, "I don't dance because...." he stopped me mid-explanation and said, "I promise, I won't let you fall. Please, dance with me." I looked around to see if this was some ploy my family or his had put him up to. Each of them were were chatting with other guests, not anywhere close to us, and oblivious to the request he had put before me. I stared at him for a second to see if he was serious, and the look on his face told me he was prepared to convince me further should need be. "I promise.... " he said once more. I smiled nervously and finally nodded. I stood as he led me to the dance floor. Once there, he rolled my walker out of the way and held me as we danced to "We've Got Tonight."

It was one of the few moments I felt just like everybody else. If you didn't know me, and you saw the two of us on the dance floor, you wouldn't know I was disabled. On the other hand, while I felt like everyone else, I also felt like the most cherished person in the room during that moment. I've never felt more safe and secure in my life than I did when we danced. My nerves and insecurities faded and I was just a girl dancing with a guy.

I looked over his shoulder to see my family (and his) in tears at the two of us dancing. That dance created a bond between the two that I share with no one else.

Our friendship was cemented with that dance. He has since become one of my closest friends. He's protective, and will jump to my defense in a hot second. He's the person I would call at 2 a.m. to come hold my hand during an emergency (and he'd talk to me on the phone till he got there). And he'll be the "other guy" that will have to approve of the guy who asks for my hand in marriage (my Dad being the first, of course). He does things that I've always imagined a big brother would do for his little sister. We don't talk every day, or even every week, but he leaves no doubt that he's there, looking out for me.

And it all started with a guy that took a chance in asking me to dance, and in doing so, gave me a forever memory to go back to in the rough times, and created a friendship that will last forever. He showed me I was worth the effort.

He promised he wouldn't let me fall...... And ten years later, he's still keeping that promise!

Play Ball!

Last week, Austin played his first ever t-ball game!

Let me tell you, if ALL of us had as much fun doing WHATEVER it is we do on a daily basis as Austin did out there on that field....We would have fewer bad days! He had the time of his life....And he was GOOD too!

Thanks Prince Charming, for not only showing me how to play on the field, but off as well....All we have to do is "Have some fun out there!"

I Have A Small Idea About Where This Came From....

Last night, I had a dream that Patrick Dempsey was involved in an undercover operation with the people that live across the street from me. Unfortunately, I blew his cover when he came out of the house and I casually said, "Hey Patrick!"

Clearly, I watch entirely too many cop dramas on T.V.

Rookie Blue: "God's Good Grace" (Season Finale Part 2)

Here is part 2 of the “Rookie Blue” season two finale. If you haven’t read PART 1-Be sure and read that FIRST as you’ll need to understand that episode in order to understand this one.

* The episode opens with Andy reciting the Oath of Honor to Traci in an empty locker room. Andy is beside herself with worry and guilt as Traci tries to comfort her.

* We are then taken back “36 hours earlier” the group is at The Penny singing karaoke when Andy gets a call and she says she’s on her way…

* We are then greeted with Andy at Sam’s UC apartment and she’s telling him about karaoke night asking him what he would sing. After some thought, he says, “Stuck in the middle with you” (LOL!) then “No, ‘love the one you’re with’” (Awwwwww!!!!!!!) Andy says, “How about ‘All by Myself”?” “No you’re not!” Sam says (Awwwww!!!!!) Andy then asks Sam, “Do you ever wish we were normal?” Sam: "What you mean? We are normal.” Andy: "you know what I mean.” Sam: "Andy, If I could ask you to stay, I would.” Andy: "So ask me to stay, you know I’ll go home in the morning…” Sam rolls over, looks at her, and finally whispers, “Stay.”

* I’d started to worry I had missed the above conversation, as it had been in the summer promo (none of the scene…Just the dialogue) and I’d been wracking my brain to figure out what episode it had been on and HOW I could have missed it. Was relieved when I saw that I had not missed it! And loved the “Spider-Man” type kiss at the end of that scene!

* Next Andy is getting reamed by Boyd who is telling her she got made she put Sam in this situation! The rest of the team is getting the details and being shown a surveillance video of Brennan showing up at J’D’s” and saying he would like to go see JD’s boat and why not take just one car. JD agrees and off they go. This was not a planned visit to Sam has no cover team. The wire was disconnected and Sam hasn’t been heard from. All are dismissed to get to work on finding Sam.

* This is also when Luke finds out “Candice” is Andy and that she and Sam have been seeing each other. JEALOUS LUKE!

* A new rookie is also introduced.

* Next we see Sam…Tied to a chair, head covered with a black pillow case, and Brennan watching him struggle to get the pillow case to come off. Brennan finally takes it off and we see a bloody Sam with a gag on his mouth. He quickly looks around to get his bearings. As Sam continues to try and figure things out, Brennan talks about his wife and that would have done anything for her and still would.

* The rookies (new one included) take an accident report to Luke that looks to be incomplete. No statements, no witnesses, no reconstruction report. Luke says it’s sloppy paperwork but it happens and then finally says if they are that worried to talk to the officer that filed the report. Andy and Gail head out to do just that.

* Meanwhile, Brennan takes pity on “JD” and removes the gag saying that it must really dry out his mouth. “JD” asks where “Candice” is and Brennan assures him, he dropped her off downtown.

* Question here, Why would Sam think Brennan has Andy? He had no idea that Brennan picked her up. I’m thinking something got edited out, because that question didn’t make sense to me.

* JD asks Brennan what he’s doing and Brennan says he’s looking for answers to questions he has. “What makes you think I have the answers?” JD asks… “God’s good grace…” Brennan replies. Seems that boat has been property of the police for well over a year after someone got caught selling drugs out of it…. “Right….Officer?” Brennan asks with a creepy smile.

* So, in actuality, it was SAM that blew his own cover! When he mentioned “God’s Good Grace” as being the name of “JD’s" boat in the previous episode, Brennan knew THEN! Andy didn’t blow it, SAM DID!

* Sam knows then, he’s been made. And he asks what is he doing there. Brennan wants to know what happens to his family and why the accident report was faked and holds said report in front of Sam’s face. Sam honestly has no idea what he’s talking about…Brennan doesn’t buy it, flips Sam back on the floor and proceeds to water board him!

* Now, let me just stop here for a second….Usually this is the part where a stunt man would step in and do the scene. Not the case here. Ben Bass (the actor who plays Sam) was REALLY water boarded during this scene! NOTHING about it was fake. Real water, REAL choking….It was REAL. And he did it TWICE…The first time blindfolded and with a rag (how it is usually done) but the director said that one was too horrific to show on T.V. I get knots in my stomach hearing that because seeing the version that DID make it on TV was pretty darn horrific. No blindfold, but Ben is still tied up, still choking, and it goes on for what feels like FOREVER (I eventually couldn’t take it anymore and had to mute my T.V. until the scene was over) . I’m shocked at how long he was able to tolerate it! That’s an Emmy moment right there! Ben was AMAZING! (To see an interview in which Ben talks about these scenes, CLICK HERE)

* Next scene we see Andy and Gail talking to the officer that filed the accident report. She says the accient looked weird to her, they had mechanics come in, reconstruction guys, and two witnesses that saw someone around the car before it crashed. Even got the lisence number…It was all in the report. Then some detective showed up. Handed the report back to her and it had been scrubbed. No notes, different mechanic, and told her to sign off. She starts to leave saying she’s going to give them a copy of her notes. She saved them, knowing this day would come. Andy asks if she knows the name of the detective that made it go away. Her reply….Donavan Boyd!

* I KNEW I hated Boyd for a reason….Now I hate him with a special kind of hate!

* Back at the station, Boyd is nervous. He sees Traci with the case file of Brennan’s late wife and yanks it away from her.

* The rookies fill Luke in on what they know including Boyd faking the report.

* Meanwhile Sam’s water boarding continues. When he can, Sam swears that report is the only thing he ever saw. Brennan wonders how a cop deep undercover could be given the same report by his handler (Boyd) as Brennan has. Sam: “Same guy who gave me a boat, keys, and a high profile drug raid. Believe me he’s not my favorite person right now!”

* Luke is now questioning Boyd who’s denying everything. Telling Andy this is HER fault and he hopes she was worth it.

* Meanwhile, the rookies find out that Brennan has a place under his late wives name and that could possibly be where Sam is being held (this new rookie is proving to be VERY smart and useful)! They proceed to run out and tell Noelle and Oliver that they have a lead and all of them proceed to head to that location with TONS of back up….

* Sam’s still being tortured and proceeds to tell Brennan “You’re gonna kill me anyway so before that happen let’s get really clear about who the bad guy is here…” then proceeds to list all of the people Brennan has tortured and killed. This doesn’t make Brennan happy, he whacks him on the knee with a hammer (OUCH!) and slaps him so hard he knocks the chair over and goes into the other room. Sam moves is ham just a bit and notices the chair arm is lose so he yanks and is able to begin untying his wrists (GO SAM GO!)

* After a horribly long commercial break, we see Brennan come back into the room loading his gun, he looks up, notices Sam is gone, and then is struck in the head with a shovel. A fight scene (which is totally executed by the two actors themselves, with the exception of one shot) ensues.

* Sam has the upper hand at one point then gets put into a chokehold by Brennan.

* At the very same time Sam is fighting for his life, backup has arrived outside. Oliver sternly tells Andy she’s NOT coming in. So, Andy is left outside with the new rookie telling him (in a chilling monotone voice what the team is doing inside. She can’t see it, but she knows it by heart. And as she talks, the officers are making each move she describes in the house busting door by door as Brennan hears them and is slowly choking Sam to death.

* FINALLY FINALLY FINALLY Oliver busts in just in time to demand Brennan let Sam go! He does. Sam catches his breath and stands.

* Next officers lead Brennan out right past Andy and he smirks at her.

* Sam comes out…Stops in front of Andy as she takes in his beaten and bloody appearance. It looks as though he wants to say something but instead walks to the waiting police car leaving Andy stunned.

* Back at the station…We see Andy and Frank walk into Frank’s office and shut the door….

* Sam is in the locker room showered and gingerly putting on a fresh shirt with his hand in a brace. Boyd walks in looking for Sam. Sam waits a beat before letting Boyd know he’s in there. Boyd is happy that Sam is back and safe. Says that Brennan is in interrogation with Jerry. Sam wonders why Boyd isn’t in there seeing as Brennan was his “big fish…” Boyd: "Figured I’d let Jerry have it. He’s earned it." Sam: "Oh…” *SLAMS locker door gives Boyd an icy stare* The stare letting Boyd know Sam is aware that Boyd is the one that faked the report and caused all of this and that he KNEW all of this when he sent Sam into the UC op. Boyd: "Don’t’ start with me because you and that rookie….” Sam: *Stepping closer to Boyd* “Her name is officer McNally, and two years on the job she’s already ten times the cop you’ll ever be…..” Stunned look from Boyd as Sam continues to look him in the eye. Sam: "You’re done." And walks away…Boyd calls to him but Sam keeps on walking….

* Sam then observes Jerry questioning Brennan from behind the two way mirror. Jerry says they have someone in custody (A biker that sold drugs and Boyd was the informant) and the case of his wife and daughter has officially been reopened. Jerry says he’ll wait for Brennan’s lawyer and then get started. Brennan tells Jerry to “tell your guy I’m sorry, he’s a stand up guy…” Jerry looks in the mirror knowing Sam is watching.

* Frank comes in and Sam knows he wants to say something. Sam: “Frank, it’s me…Come on, talk to me…” Frank: "I know. The fact that it’s you makes this so much harder….”

* Next we see Andy in street clothes hanging up her uniform and walking out of the station. As she’s walking down the sidewalk we see Sam drive up next to her and roll down the passenger window. “Hey…” he gets her attention…

* Andy slowly walks to the truck looking like she can’t quite believe her eyes…Sam: “What happened?” Andy: “Got suspended. You?" Sam: "I got yelled at….THEN I got suspended.” Andy: “Sam…” she trails off looking like she wants to apologize and cry at the same time. Sam stares at her for a second before smiling a little. Sam: "wanna try being normal together…?” Andy: "How are we gonna do that?" Sam: "I dunno….I have no idea." He smiles. And we see Andy give a smile hint of a smile as well…..And that is the scene that wraps up season two!

We’ll have to wait until what looks like late June to see what Andy and Sam’s “normal” looks like as that is when season three will likely begin, it’s being filmed as I type!

In the meantime, I hope those of you that tuned in each week, enjoyed the show! And if you read any of my thoughts, I truly appreciate it and hope you enjoyed!

If you want to see the Andy and Sam scenes from this episode, CLICK HERE.

And I’d encourage you to watch the link I posted above in which Ben talks about the torture scenes in this episode. Ben gives some great insight!

As always, thanks for reading and feel free to share your thoughts!

Rookie Blue: "On The Double" (Season Finale Part 1)

SO sorry for the delay in getting this up (even if I’m the only one that reads them…If there’s anyone else that happens to read them as well, I really do apologize for the delay). A LOT happens in the final two episodes and most of what happens in this one has to be understood in order to understand the second episode so I was A LOT more descriptive than I usually am. I had to watch the episode as I was writing this up, to make sure I included everything I needed to. I wasn’t just blogging off the top of my head like normal so it took a lot more time than usual. Thanks for your patience!

I'm breaking up the two episodes into two separate entries.... Hope it makes it easier for everyone reading.

* That opening scene was adorable! Andy fishing around under the covers nearly kicking Sam in the face as he asks, "What ARE you doin'?” Andy explains she's putting on her shirt because she fears the cameras are on. Sam pulls the cover off her head and assures her all cameras and wires are off. "Prove it." quips Andy. With a smirk, Sam gets out of bed, turns and thanks to some strategically placed furniture, we get the idea...He's got NO clothes on. "Happy?" he asks Andy..." Very!" is the response.

* We then find out that Sam is the one that called Andy, Sam says it's safer that way, the less Andy knows about what he's doing, the better. He then tells Andy to forget she ever met Brennan (the guy that beat her at pool last episode) that he's no joke! Andy promises.

* Later, as Andy and Sam dress we find out that Andy took the day off to take care of her mortgage. Andy asks Sam if he wants to come with her. Sam wishes he could but he needs to turn the camera's back on so Boyd doesn't get nervous that something is wrong. He tells Andy he'll miss her. (Awwwwww!!!!) Then we hear a beating on the door. It's Brennan with coffee. He gives Andy a helpless look as he rushes for the door, and Andy looks for a place to hide.

* Brennan is now looking around “JD’s” apartment. Sam sneaks a glance around himself wondering WHERE Andy might be. Comments on “JD’s” “Moby Dick” book (nice shout out to season one…Loved it). Brennan says he’s there to make sure “JD’s” knows the ground rules and says he heard “JD” could get just about anything anybody wanted and Brennan is curious about how he does it. “God’s Good Grace” is “JD’s” reply. Brennan is stumped as to what that means. “It’s the name of my boat, docked at the harbor front.” Brennan nods. He then spots “Candice’s” boot and asks when he gets to meet her….Cue Andy (Candice) coming out of the bathroom playing the part well. Brennan leaves shortly after & Andy freaks out wanting to leave. Sam tells her she has to stay for at least 15 minutes to makes sure Brennan is really gone. Andy asks if 15 minutes is even enough. Sam looks back at the door, back at her and with a nervous laugh says, “maybe 20…” and pulls her toward the bed…. I love how Sam almost blew his entire op right there simply because he just can’t get enough of her…It’s so dangerous, but SO adorable!!!

* Later, we see Andy leaving Sam UC apartment…She can’t wipe the smile off her face. Brennan pulls up and offers “Candice” a ride. She tries to decline but he’s persistent and she eventually she gets in. (I’m screaming at my T.V. at this point “Stupid move, Andy. STUPID STUPID move!” “Candice” and Brennan chat a bit about “JD” and what a big sports fan he is. After driving for awhile, “Candice” gets nervous thinking Brennan was going to drop her off. He says they’re going somewhere else first. And at this point, I’m thinking she’s going to be taken somewhere, beaten (or worse) and left.

* Brennan takes her to the marina and tells her that he likes her, that “JD” is “garbage wrapped in skin” (something about me really loved how descriptive that line was). He gives “Candice” money for a hotel and tells her he doesn’t want to see her at “JD’s” tonight then leaves.

* Next Andy is at the station doing research on Jamie Brennan and finds that he is the prime suspect in six murder cases, three of which died from torture. She gasps at the horrible images attached with the reports and tells Tracie Jamie was going to see Sam (aka JD) tonight and had told her to stay away. Andy says she has to tell Frank she and Sam are involved and his cover might have blown.

* Once Andy does reveal the truth, Frank is BEYOND furious. He gets called out and Andy soon finds out that something has happened to Sam’s wire and everyone is trying to figure out what’s going on. Sam asks for Traci’s keys and hurries out.

* Once at Sam’s UC apartment, Andy is greeted by a blood trail leading down the steps and a ransacked and bloodied apartment. Andy panics and screams for Sam…Boyd shouts for her to get out of there…NOW and she is forced out by Jerry as she continues to scream Sam’s name, and with that, the first hour comes to a close….

I hope this all made sense. Like I said, I tried to be as descriptive as possible so you could follow what was going on, as it will be important to know to follow the next episode. I HOPE to have the second episode up tomorrow night late. Since we don’t have any new episodes now, it’s the PERFECT excuse for me to watch again as I write up all the details like I did for this one! Thanks again for hanging in there with me!

Music Monday

Here's what I recommend this week:

"We've All Got To Be Going Somewhere by Jay Malinowski

By the way, in case anyone is wondering, I'm still working on getting my thoughts down for the final two episodes of the second season for "Rookie Blue." Lots of things to cover for each episode, but I'm working on it!

Ten Years Later: I Remember.

I remember..... where I was that day. I had just gotten to my dorm. Like usual, I set my breakfast down on my desk, turned on the "Today Show" as I set about making sure I was prepared for a speech I had to give that morning. Matt and Katie kept me company in the background as I went over my notes.

I remember.....I got up and walked over to my fridge and had opened it and bent down to grab a Dr. Pepper when I heard the words, "We have breaking news that a plane has crashed into the World Trade Center...." I stood up, thinking I MUST have heard wrong. And then pictures started popping up on screen of a smoke filled NYC. I stood there frozen. The door to my refrigerator wide open and a Dr. Pepper in my hand. This couldn't be real, could it? No idea how long I stood glued to my kitchen floor with cold air still escaping from my fridge, but eventually I snapped out of it long enough to close it, and sit down at my desk turning up the volume, and watched in horror as news reports came pouring in with horrific images to accompany them. I remember gasping as I watched the second plane hit, and thinking, "How much worse can it get?" My answer came shortly after when the buildings collapsed.

I remember.....My speech was forgotten. Getting ready for that seemed so incredibly inconsequential compared to what was going on. I looked at the clock and noticed that I'd been glued to the T.V. for close to an hour and it was well past time for me to leave for class. I gathered up my stuff, made sure I had my phone with me and hurried out the door....The T.V. was still on.

I remember.....Getting to the Dan Rather building and barely being able to get to my class because people were gathered outside an office glued to a T.V. seeing everything unfold.

I remember.....Two girls in my class had relatives working in NYC and they were beside themselves.

I remember.....Getting up and numbly giving my speech. What usually made me a nervous wreck was something I just did on that day....I didn't care HOW I did either, all of us were on auto-pilot (you could tell from the dazed look everyone that got up to gave a speech had on their face. We all just wanted out of there).

I remember...... leaving that class and going directly to my second (and final) class of the day....It was canceled.

I remember....Heading straight to the LSC and looking to see which line was shortest (pizza). I grabbed one, paid, and headed back to my dorm as quickly as I could get there.

I remember..... that being one of the few days I didn't make my usual trip to the library to study.

I remember....My T.V. and more nightmarish images of that day still blaring as I unlocked my door and went inside. It wasn't a dream, it was a nightmare and people were living it.

I remember.....America changed forever that day, WE ALL changed forever that day.

I remember. I have never forgotten.

My thoughts and prayers are with those that lost loved ones ten years ago, and that ache every day because of it. May God continue to comfort those who mourn, and protect those who serve. God bless America!

Music Monday!

Here's what I'm listening to constantly now:

"Ashes" by Andy Brown

The song played during the Sam and Andy scene last week. I bought it on Itunes, and now I can't stop listening to it! A beautiful song for a beautiful scene!

Happy Labor Day everybody!

Rookie Blue: "A Little Faith"

SQUEAL!!!!!!!!!!!! OH MY GOSH YOU GUYS!!!!!! Did you SEE that?? Did you SEEEEEEE that?!?!?! I could post an entry about how great it was and how much I enjoyed every bit of it, but my words are NOTHING compared to seeing it for yourselves!!

Pause the music and WATCH THIS!!!!!!!! (If you want to get to the best part quicker, Start at the 3:42 mark and then watch all the way to the end).

OH MY GOSH!!!!!! I'm STILL giddy and it's been hours!!!! So, I'm just gonna let the video say it all, because really.....What else is there to say? Kudos to Ben and Missy for doing such an AMAZING job! You made SO MANY fans happy!

And I just have to give a shout out and even MORE kudos to my texting buddy Diana. As I was sitting down to watch tonight, I turned on the T.V. two minutes before show time to find....FOOTBALL on my T.V. A quick search showed me that my show had indeed been pre-empted and would be showing at 2:07 Friday morning. This left Diana to watch live with no one to talk to during commercials. I was beside myself so she would send me her thoughts without actually telling me ANY of what she was seeing onscreen. I don't know HOW she managed to keep that ALL IMPORTANT scene a secret, but she did....Only texting "This sucks!!!!!!!" at the time that was happening (the fact that she couldn't tell me what was happening, NOT the actual scene itself). I tell ya, she deserves an Emmy and I adore her for keeping me sane AND not giving anything away in the process! Don't know HOW she did it, but Di, THANK YOU!! You rock! Needless to say I was texting her like mad when I finally got to watch this morning!

Another note: Next week two episodes are scheduled to air, the second episode being the season finale (if the President's speech doesn't force ANOTHER pre-emption). The episodes will be aired back to back and because I watch live, there's no way I can watch one, blog about it, and then watch the second one. Not sure how I'm going to work that out, if I'll do a separate entry for each episode or just combine them both into one entry. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome!

Quality Time

We are blessed! Every afternoon when Mom and I pick Lexi up from school, she's as hyper as can be and so happy. A sharp contrast to last year when, while she never let on that she DIDN'T like school, she was never like THIS excited about it, and we really think she's totally enjoying her second grade year so far!

Austin enjoys pre-k so much that he wants to eat breakfast there instead of at home, and he cried if we came to pick him up early. So now Kimberly picks him up on her way home from work. While Austin seems thrilled with this arrangement, we hardly get to see him now. We get about an hour and a half of great time with Alexis just by herself. We love it, and so does she, but we do miss Austin. Kimberly usually just pulls up to the house and Alexis gets in and they jet off to practice so Austin doesn't even come in the house.

Tonight, he wanted to stay with us while Lexi was at practice. I was THRILLED! It was the first time I had seen him ANY since Monday (a long time for me) and was overjoyed when he ran to me and threw his arms around me in a bear hug! Mom, Dad, and I took him to dinner at Chili's and I soaked up every detail he told us about his school, and the new friends he had made! I made a big deal out of his coloring, and how well he wrote his name, and I didn't care that he was so hyper you could practically peel him off the ceiling, his excitement over the little things was infectious and I just loved getting to finally spend some quality time with my Prince Charming....How I've missed him so!

I'm so blessed to call myself their Aunt....They make it such an amazing honor!

Music Monday!

Been a while since I did a "Music Monday" entry! Here's my recommendation for the week:

"I Can't Get Over You" by Anthem Lights

Beautiful, beautiful song!

Rookie Blue: "Best Laid Plans"

So, I made a rule for myself that I COULD NOT read anyone else's RB blogs or read any fanfic until my thoughts from last night were up. Actually, it's a good rule, because other people's blogs seem to influence what I write and it also helps me not put it off. It's not that I don't like blogging about it, it's just that after I read someone else's blog, I always think, "Wow! That was really great...." and then lose the steam to write my own and not just point you to theirs. However, since I write as much for myself as anybody, here goes with this weeks thoughts:

* McNally and Swarek partnered again....Oh, my happy heart!

* Did you SEE Sam practically fly on top of her when those shots were fired trying to get them to safety? Yikes!

* And we learn that Sam has been offered an undercover op, off the grid with no contact with anyone for who knows how long....And that he leaves in three weeks. Did you hear the mild panic in Andy's voice? "You're not even gonna think about it?" Sam: "What's there to think about?" Oh you got her thinking alright Sammy boy! About not saving all the good Halloween candy, but eating it right then...Yep, you got her thinkin'!

* And then Sam leaves her to deal with the trapped accident victim to try and find the kid that's been kidnapped. And THAT also gets Andy thinking....Life's too short!

* Andy plays hero and gets the lady out of her burning car....Her training no doubt payed off and her TO would be proud!

*Sam with a kid....Go ahead, mop me up off the floor! Soooo sweet!

* Did you see the look on his face as he came upon the scene of a burned up car and no McNally in sight? He quickly handed the boy to Oliver to find her.

*Did you HEAR the panic as he called her name? And then he called it again and again....

*Did you SEE the relief on his face when he finally saw her, that she was okay! Did you SEE?

* "If I would have known the car was gonna catch on fire...." "You should have radioed me...." He told her this and gave her a slight smile and a nod of the head, when all she cared about was if the boy was safe. "Yeah, we found him..." he said as he shakes his head at her slightly exasperated that she's not even worried about herself and that she could have been killed. It was SO cute!

* And then, there they are...Staring at each other both with the hint of a relieved smile, Andy's eyes a bit teary. They inch closer. And closer. Literally, you couldn't put a piece of paper between them....Then Andy pulls back, offering a sad smile as she goes around him, leaving Sam with the saddest look on his face....

* And Sam and Andy fans everywhere throw shoes at their T.V.'s and scream a frustrated screams.

* Andy is at the station when she finds out the girl she saved didn't make it after all and remembers her promise to feed the girl's cat. Shell shocked, she's off to fulfill her promise.

* Once there, Andy realizes she doesn't WANT to save the good candy anymore and calls Sam and tells his voicemail just that....And that she's coming over.

* We see Sam's phone on his desk in his apartment, and that he missed one call. Then the camera pans down to the street where he sits in a van with the head of the undercover op. Sam's getting a new phone and instructions.... "Remember, no contact with anyone else from now on, except me." "Yes sir." Sam replies. "Sorry things changed at such short notice...." Sam shrugs, "It's not like I had any great plans for tonight...." And the van pulls off to take Sam to his UC location.

* And once again.....Fans everywhere scream. Because Andy knows how she feels..... and it's too late. Because Sam's felt that way for a long time..... and it's too late. Because we have to wait a whole week to see what happens next...And that's too long!

First Day!

Alexis' sign read, "I am a 2nd Grader"

Austin's sign read, "I am a Pre-Schooler"

Both signs were made by my creative Mom, and both kids were all smiles and seemed to have had a great day! Thanks to those of you who prayed for them yesterday, and those of you that will continue to do so throughout the year!

Dear Pop

Dear Pop,

Happy 89th Birthday! I doubt Birthdays are celebrated up in Heaven quite like they are down here. Something tells me the celebration of life never stops there! I just wanted you to know you were being thought about today down here...More so than usual.

Hard to believe it's been almost 13 years since you went Home. As you know, lots has happened since you left. Kimberly and I both finished school, Kimberly and Justin got married, I survived college, and in the midst of all, that we welcomed your great-granddaughter and great grandson!
I know you held both of them long before any of us did...Still my heart aches when I think about the fact that you're not here to watch them grow. Their personalities are so incredible and I just know you would get such a kick out of them, Pop! Alexis got your work ethic and soul. She works so hard at everything and is so caring! Austin...Pop, he's got your sense of humor...Some of the things he does I know you would laugh so hard at! He loves with everything he's got...And there are times when he looks at me a certain way and I have to do a double take because I swear, I see you starring back at me. So, as sad as it is knowing that you're not here, I know God allowed you to put your fingerprints on them!

Grandma is fine. Lonely, but hanging in there! We visit as much as we can and Aunt Jo and Randy stop by often as well. Still I know she misses you and must crave your company at times.

Mom and Dad are great! Loving retired life. As you know, your name comes up in conversation quite often around here. There are times when it's accompanied by tears, but it's only because we miss you. Mama loves to tell the kids about you!

As for me, well, I think you know. I'm still rollin'. Still working on making my ultimate dream come true, but I haven't made it on the T.V. screen yet, nor do I work behind the scenes anywhere, but my passion still is television and I still pray that doors will open for me to pursue the dream you always believed in with me. I also seem to have inherited your love of coffee, Pop! Bet you never thought I'd be a coffee drinker, huh? I can drink my hot mocha in 100 plus degree temps! I used to think I was nuts, but Mom told me years ago that you were the exact same way, and now I just smile when I think about it.

I know there are countless times you have shown me that you are looking out for me, and I think my college years were times you were working your angel wings especially hard on my behalf. Those moments don't go unnoticed and I appreciate it more than you know. I miss you beyond words, Pop. Everyone told me at your funeral how extra special I was to you....I get it now, Pop. I do. And I'm humbled by how much you loved me and still let me know you love me even today. You were (and still are) my favorite, Pop. Just don't tell the rest of the family, okay? ;-) I hope I'm making you proud.

I have to go now to pick up Alexis and Austin from their first day of school. Now doubt they'll share the details of the day with a certain twinkle in there eye, and I'll know you're there.

I can't wait to run into your arms one day and talk a walk around Heaven with you....Until then, we'll keep moving forward here. Missing you every day, but knowing it's only a temporary ache and that Forever is coming.

So, Happy Birthday sweet Pop.....I love you so much!

Your girl forever,

Nat

Another School Year Begins!

Not for me (Thank God!) For Alexis and Austin. If I could ask for your prayers for both of them tomorrow (Monday).

Alexis will begin second grade and Austin will begin his final year of pre-k. He will be in Kindergarten next year.....Holy smokes!

If you could just say a quick prayer for them as you read this, or whenever God puts them on your heart, my entire family would really appreciate it! We know that His hand will protect them, and meet every need both of them have tomorrow and in the year ahead!

Thank you in advance for your prayers for the two loves of my life! :-)

Rookie Blue "Brotherhood" Clips

If you're actually visiting the blog, scroll down to the bottom of the page and pause the music to watch these clips. If you're a subscriber, just click on the links.

These are two of my favorite scenes from Thursday. One was shown in pictures in the post below, but the clip shows everything in context.

"Look at the person next to you...."

The second one is my favorite Swarek/Shaw scene....The entire exchange is hysterical and most likely ad libbed. Swarek (played by Ben Bass) is the one driving. What his facial expressions.....

"Hoist the sail...."

You laughed, right?? Right???? Man, I love this show! Feel free to let me know what you thought! ;-)

Rookie Blue: "Brotherhood"

Parade has begun for the coppers and Captain Frank Best issues an order to his squad

"Look at the person next to you. Just for a second. Go ahead...."

"That person deserves your very best!"

Something tells me Sam REALLY ENJOYED following this order!

Um, okay Sam...the order is over. Captain is moving on to other business of the day. Sam? Hello?

:-) :-) :-)

Oh, and can Swarek and Shaw PLEASE be partnered together more often! Or at least let the ride together at least once an episode! Ben and Matt OWNED the show last night with their hysterical scenes and ad libbing! Their friendship off screen came through loud and clear! They truly are "brothers."

Not my favorite episode, but it had it's moments. And that's all I've gotta say about that.

Another Year Older!

Yesterday was my birthday! I love birthday's and I love celebrating them!

I spent most of my day hanging out with my two loves: Alexis and Austin. They spent most of their day making homemade gifts for me that I couldn't see until that night when it was time to open gifts.

* After my sister and brother-in-law got off work we all went out to eat at our new favorite Mexican food restaurant (the restaurant itself isn't new, just new to US. Kimberly got us hooked on it). It's housed in a trailer, and when you drive up to it for the first time, your first thought that would most likely be, "How good can the food be that gets cooked in a trailer?" Let me tell ya, their fajitas are AMAZING!

After dinner we headed home where I opened my gifts. The big one this year being a new ipod. Mine old one was on the fritz. It's the classic style like my previous one just updated with more room and a few new features. As I type this, it's hooked up to my computer charging and syncing my music. Can't wait to hear music without the sound of static in the background! Alexis and Austin gave me some beautiful heart earrings (one heart for each of them) and presented me with some precious homemade gifts (pictures and cards).

We then had cake (Honeybun--Seriously, it's like a huge honeybun) and milk! After Everybody left, Mom, Dad, and I went to the movies and saw "The Help." Decent movie, but LONG!

As I reflect over the past year, I can't help but think about how blessed I am. Alexis and Austin are both happy and healthy, my parents are still loving retired life, Kimberly loves her job. I've had to let long time friendships go, while seeing new friendships develop leaving me to wonder how I've lived this long without some people in my life. I'm blessed to be able to "do life" with so many incredible family and friends

It's been an incredible year, and I have no idea what the NEXT year holds, but I know Who holds the next year and so I roll on with gratefulness, excitement, and peace!

Celebrate!

August 14 is a day full of celebration.....

Happy Anniversary to my incredible parents! You guys make being married for 41 years so simple and every day I see what true love is just by watching the two of you! You inspire me and I hope the next 41 years are blessed beyond measure! Love you both!

Happy Birthday to Ben Bass! Ben plays Sam Swarek on "Rookie Blue." Thanks for simply being you and for bringing so many amazing people into my life! God bless!

Rookie Blue: "Monster"

* Oh my gosh, you guys...THE BOXING SCENE!!! I've seen this scene ALL summer in the promo and was aching to see it....Was afraid it had been left on the editing room floor, but then it appeared last night and....SQUEAL!!!!!!!! THE BOXING SCENE!!!!!!!! *Big breath* Okay, I shall return to this later, just had to get the initial "squeee" out so I could focus on the rest of this.

* So far the FUNNIEST episode of the season!!

* Our first scene and Sam and Andy fans were treated with an awesome take down of the guy who identifies himself later as "Grouchy Smurf" thanks to the dye pack that exploded in his face leaving him very....Smurf looking.

* Sam and Andy on the other side of the interrogation room window. Andy has Jo's lotion, Sam says she needs to move on, Andy says she's has moved on, and Sam replies for her to really move on she needs to take an ax to Jo's desk. Andy says moved through most of the stages of grief and acceptance must be just around the corner...She attempts too look confident at Sam to which he replies, "Do you need an ax?" LOL

* I flippin' LOVE when my couple is partnered together....They are a dream team! Case and point, Sam COULD be playing poker with the rest of the guys, but instead he's munching on an apple as he and Andy listen it while Chris tries to get info. from Grouchy Smurf....The glances Sam tosses her way are not lost on me. He knows she's wound tighter than an eight day clock because of the Luke fiasco and "almost dying in a storage locker three weeks ago...."

* And when she's forced to call Luke....Sam watches closely as she fumbles her way through the conversation, hanging up so fast, headsets go on the floor, and wires go flying here and there. Sam knows she needs an outlet.

* The smiles they share as they realize "grouchy smurf" has a wife...Another victory for the dream team! And when she is found in the empty house and turns around revealing a blue face like that of her husbands, Di texts... "Oh look....Smurfette!" ROTFLMBO!! And THAT has been our running joke for hours now! Seriously laughed so hard I almost missed the final segment of the show!

* Traci's message to her son had me all teary and reaching for the tissues....Awesome scene!

* I heart Oliver, I heart Oliver, I heart Oliver, I HEART OLIVER!

* Frank and Noelle...Love them! At least she put the baby desire out there and it was, "whether we make it or not, I want a baby, and nothing has changed that." She put every card on the table....Frank's turn.

* Andy asks Sam if he wants to go to the Penny for breakfast. Sam's response, "I can't, but I have something YOU need to do, right now. Come here..." Sam leads her off starting to unbutton is uniform.

* And then...The boxing scene...Oh my gosh, the boxing scene ya'll!!! They're in a gym...Andy's confused. Sam's in got his uniform off leaving him wearing the black shirt he had on earlier. "You need to hit something...." Sam tells her handing her the gloves. A small laugh from Andy...."Hit what?" Sam looks at her with a raised eyebrow as he finishes strapping some gloves on himself...."Me." he states. Andy laughs, drops the gloves and says she's fine. That gets her a light tap on the shoulder from Sam...And once Andy realizes how serious he is, she's strapping on the gloves and an all out sparring session ensues! They laugh, jab, smile, jab, and laugh some more....And FINALLY, we see a light return to Andy's eyes that hasn't been there in weeks and she and Sam share a knowing smile as they continue to spar! Welcome back, McNally! Sam knew just what you needed! LOVED. THAT. SCENE.

And now all I have left to ask is, "Is it Thursday yet?" ;-)

Rookie Blue: "The One That Got Away"

Blame the delay on a weekend softball tournament (yes, in 107 degree temps), Grandma visiting for the week, the fact that I don't think anybody reads these but me, sheer procrastination, whatever....But you can rejoice because here are my thoughts (however short) on last week's show....

* Sam and trying to get Andy to open up with coffee...He knows something's up and he knows she'll open up eventually. Gotta love the smile that plays on his lips!

* Andy storming out when Jo tells her to go grab them pizza's...Sam standing up, crossing his arms, watching Andy leave. He glances at Jo and it clicks....He KNOWS! And then he glares...And I do mean GLARES at Jo so long and hard that it made ME uncomfortable! Don't mess with his girl!

* Sam TRIES to keep his emotions in check as Andy goes on about how she wants to check out the storage lockers... And Sam's response, "For what? Some guy who put a ring on your finger, and then cheated on you? Andy's face totally crumbled. "How did you know? And you can clearly see the battle playing out on Sam's face as he tries to reel everything in. "You can spin the story any way you want, "ANYBODY WHO CARES ABOUT YOU is gonna figure it out pretty fast..." SQUEAL!!!!!!!

* And then Sam's had enough, and leaves his partner (bad move Sam, bad, BAD move...Never EVER leave your partner!) to check out the storage lockers if she wants...He wants some time and space as he stalks out cramming his uneaten hot dog in the garbage.

* The rescue scene is where I put Sam in the place where Luke was....I handle it a lot better that way.

* Sam apologizes later in the locker room, he asks where she's going to stay (he was SO gonna offer his place) but she says she'll stay with Traci and stalks off.

*Everybody needs a Traci in their life...Loved the end scene with the two of them.

And now, because it's so late and I have to work tomorrow (blah) I'm gonna end it there. Hopefully my thoughts on tomorrow night's ep will be up sooner rather than later.

Now There's A Thought!

Today, our chief meteorologist, Frank Billingsley asked, "How hot is it in your neighborhood today???" on his facebook page. One response that was read during the newscast:

"Baked a potato in the mailbox...." :-D ROTFL!!!!!!!

Yep, it's THAT hot here folks!

Rookie Blue: "In Plain Sight"

Lookie at me getting a thoughts up in a timely manner.....Woo hoo!!

* Well Luke. I never liked you, but I respected you....Until you cheated. Then, I was done with you. The ONLY thing I give you kudos for is not denying it when Andy confronted you with the truth. I wonder though if you would have EVER owned up to it had you not been caught, or if you would have pulled the "I'm not going to tell her, because it would only hurt her...." line. See. to me that's just the coward's way out....You don't care anything about her pain (or you wouldn't have cheated in the first place) you just don't want to face the consequences and of your actions and admit that you were a jerk. So...you play the "this won't ever happen again (yeah right!) she'll never find out so I just won't tell her...." Here's a hint: They always find out. One way or another, they ALWAYS find out. Soooo....She found out, you admitted it, she left you (and your engagement ring...That was meant for SOMEONE ELSE) behind. Good!

* Not one word of interaction between Sam and Andy, so it was a bit of a downer ep for me and my texting buddy, but the one scene I LOVED and have watched over and over again is the undercover scene when Sam, Traci, Andy, and Jo took down the guy that was setting up his girlfriend....LOVED how subtle everything was until everything exploded into action and as the music played, guns were drawn, rights were read, the girlfriend was held back, and the guy was cuffed...AWESOME scene!!! And...Sam and Andy were at least in the same area....Bonus points!!

* I do want to know if that slide into the way was scripted and Jerry was supposed to do that or if Noam Jenkins tripped on his way into the scene and they just kept rolling....Either way, I loved it, and give props to Ben Bass and Enuka Okuma for keeping a straight face, because I was cracking up!!

Next week looks like we get lots of Sam and Andy.....Yay!!! Here's to movin' forward!!!

Rookie Blue: "Stung"

No, I didn't forget to blog about this episode....I just didn't have much to say about it. Wanted to get SOMETHING up about it before tomorrow nights episode though.

Two minutes of Sam and Andy doesn't give me much to go on, the rest of the story lines felt like fillers, and and the only thing I COULD talk about is the whole Luke/cheating issue. That would just serve to get me on my "reasons why cheating is NOT okay...." soapbox and nobody really wants that, do they? Didn't think so.

Hoping to have LOTS of good things to say after tomorrow's episode!

Fresh Mercy!

It's been one of those weeks where I've just felt like a horrible Aunt. I had to be really stern with both Alexis and Austin on different occasions this week. Just for simply not paying attention and doing what they were told. Each incident happened on different days and while everyone seemed back on good terms with each other, at the end of each day I would beat myself up saying I was too hard on them and should have handled it differently. I questioned whether or not they knew how much I adored them or if I would be thought of from here on out as a "mean Aunt..."

Last night, I was (over)thinking things that went on this week, when Rod Stewart's "Have I Told You Lately...." came on the radio. That was all it took for me to end up in tears. I prayed for God to ease my heart, and for Alexis and Austin to know how much I loved them.

This morning, I was getting dressed for work, when Alexis bursts through my bedroom door and made a beeline for me with a hug that nearly knocked me over...My heart soared! Austin wasn't far behind with a hug so tight it took my breath away! Each acting as if I'd never said a harsh word to them.

We giggled and laughed until eventually, both "helped" me finish getting dressed offering various opinions on my hair (which, at the time, was in DESPERATE need of a cut. Thankfully, that happened this afternoon). Then we headed to the living room where Alexis crawled in my lap the two of us watched as Austin attempted to juggle.

God's mercies are new every morning and that was never more evident than in the hugs of the two most precious people in my life!

Flashpoint: "Personal Effects"/"Good Cop"

Continuing to play blog catch up and posting my thoughts about the past two weeks "Flashpoint" episodes since I didn't post an entry on last week or this week. For the purpose of ease, I'm just combining my thoughts on BOTH episodes into one entry.

* I LOVE the fact that Canada and the U.S. are FINALLY watching the SAME episodes at the SAME time!! Welcome to season four!

* Ed! Canadians had to wonder for MONTHS if he was going to survive, and it wasn't easy on the U.S. viewers either who only had to wait a few weeks.

* Loved how the team came together under the face of incredibly intense scrutiny to bring down the guy who shot him. Their family, it's what they do!

* Clarke!!!!! So nice to see you again!

* Ed refusing surgery until he coached his wife through labor....So sweet! Incredible coaching by the way. So much hinged on keeping Sophie calm, and Ed did it so well. I get that as Team Leader, that's his JOB in the field, but this was his WIFE and unborn daughter we're talking about! *I* probably would have been FREAKING OUT....But Ed was calm, and focused, and was able to LOVE his wife with nothing but words....LOVED IT!!!! Incredible scenes!!!

* I shall never think of or see fireflies again and not think of Ed and Sophie.

* Loved Parker taking charge of the hostage situation, and asking each member of they wanted to stand down, and each member's emphatic reply being along the lines of "No way!" Love my Team One!

* I may be one of the few that's NOT sold on Sam and Jules.

* Ed making promises to his newborn daughter, Izzie, and then taking her out to introduce her to the team....Great scene!

*So, ep two of the season picks up four months later....Interesting, but it got Ed back into uniform that much quicker so I'll take it!

* I knew it was gonna be anything BUT a "routine escort" when Team One has to get involved, it means NOTHING is "routine."

* I love Parker, and he's a great negotiator, but I LOVE when Ed gets the chance to talk people down....He does it SO well. Which is why he needs to be back in the Team Leader position sooner than later....No offense, Sam.

* And we finally learn that Ed is planning to quit the team...

* Or so he thinks until his wife and sweet Iz makes an appearance and once she sets the ground rules, Ed is back in! GREAT scene with those three!!! "You're Dad is a rock star..." Hugh Dillon must've LOVED that line since Hugh Dillon IS indeed a rock star....Several of his songs have even been on the show. True story!

* "It's good to have you back....." Well said, Parker! It IS good to have Ed, and ALL of Team One back on our T.V. screens! Can't wait to see what other incredible stuff season four has to offer!!!!

Rookie Blue: "Heart & Sparks"

Sorry this is a few days late. We had a VBS hot dog supper Thursday night and I BARELY made it home in time for my weekly RB texting date. By the time it was over, had to shower and get to bed so I could be up early for the final day of VBS. So, didn't have time to blog.

In other news, I found out another person blogs the SAME way as I do....With bullet points, mostly relating to Andy/Sam. I've gone back and forth as to whether to add more detail in my explanation, but once I found her blog and saw she did the same thing, I felt better. So, enough babble....On with my thoughts:

* I LOVE how Sam and Andy casually walk to parade talking about stuff (mostly Andy's love life) but nonetheless, it's casual, comfortable, and so natural.

* I HEART the fact that Oliver totally knows Sam has feelings for Andy telling him he's NOT going in the building. "Sam, she's fine...." and the slight crack in Sam's voice as he yelled at Oliver for "letting her go in there in the first place!" Oh, how he loves her!

* Andy is #3 on Sam's speed dial!!! Still wondering who number 1 & 2 are....Di and I are guessing his Mom and Sis.

* "I'm right here..." in response to Andy asking where he was..What he didn't say was, "I'm not going ANYWHERE till you're out of there...." And the "I'm here if you need me, okay?" Totally "Awwwwwwww......" worthy!

* Have I mentioned how much I love Oliver??? "When she gets out, might be a good time to talk to her." Sam-"About what?" Oliver: "Ya know....Things." Oliver SO knows. But then, Sam makes it pretty obvious....He was BROODING over the fact that Andy was in there and there wasn't anything he could do for her....Brooding I tell ya!

* And their eyes....They did all the talking when Andy and Sam finally saw each other. Not a word was spoken, the eyes said it all. And the way he gently helped her out....Say it with me..."Awwwwww......."

* Loved how he had Andy's back and defended her instincts, which turned out to be right, by the way!

* Love Traci and Jerry....But I'm getting a little annoyed at Traci for living with her ex (and using her son as that excuse) and still wanting to be all bright and shiny with Jerry. It's not fair to Jerry! Pick ONE and go with it, Traci....This is NOT okay!

* Gail- Thank you for having a heart tonight.

* Love the fact that Noelle might be getting a love interest and having the baby she so desperately wants the natural way because of it!

* The locker room scene....WOW! Sam-"I'm there when it matters!" Yes, Sam. You are indeed! And Andy calling his name as he was leaving and him thinking she wanted a ride....My question, what DID she want to say?

* Sam said "Okey dokey" YES HE DID!!!!! I wonder if that was an ad lib on Ben Bass' part. Either way....LOVED IT!!!!

* Andy must have felt sucker punched as she peeked in Luke's hospital room to see him smiling and laughing with Jo (especially after she was telling Sam that she had tried EVERYTHING to get Luke to smile to no avail).

* Is it wrong that I was giddy when she turned around, dumped the plant she'd brough Luke in the trash and headed for the exit? Oh yeah, the door just opened REAL wide for Andy and Sam.....GO THROUGH THE DOOR YOU TWO!!!!

And with that...I anxiously await next weeks episode...How I LOVE this show!

VBS "Duh!" Moment of the Day!

Jackie walks into the office...

Jackie: "Natalie, have you seen my keys?"

Me: "Where did you last leave them?"

Jackie: "I don't know....That's why I can't find them!"

We then proceeded to double over in laughter....Yep, go ahead and say it...."Heeeeeere's your sign!"

Rookie Blue: "Bad Moon Rising"

I have to tell you, I watch a LOT of television (Duh!) and with every show I wait thirty minutes before I start watching to allow my DVR to get ahead so I can FF'd through commercials. I haven't been able to do that with Rookie Blue because I'm always so excited that I just can't wait. I can honestly say, this is the ONLY show I watch, that I watch LIVE. My friend Diana and I have a texting date every week where we text throughout the show, and really get going during commercial breaks. Makes the breaks fly by and makes watching the show that much more fun to watch when you're going, "Awww.....Poor Sam!" Or "Ok, didn't think THAT would happen!!" It's a blast! So, thanks to Diana for being as excited about the show as I am and making every Thursday night so much fun! Now, on with the show thoughts.......

- Why must they start such a great show by testing my gag reflex with that "proposal?" Blech!!!

-Di and I totally called the ring belonging to Jo and Andy just happening to find it! He has NO intention of proposing....The ring wasn't even ANDY'S, but the guy had to cover his rear and ask the question! He certainly didn't ACT like a guy HAPPY to be getting married when everybody was congratulating him....

-Poor Sam--He's got no choice but to stay quiet, his eyes say it all though!

-Am I the only one that cracks up at the way Sam casually chews that gum? :-D

-Okay, so maybe it's the fact that I grew up with a cop, but when the perp goes off running, isn't the cop supposed to go AFTER the guy and not literally STOP and check on his partner? I know he loves her and he's concerned, but had that been ANYBODY else, Sam would have kept running and and checked on his partner AFTER he caught the guy....Unless she was "down" which she wasn't. Let's face it, the ONLY reason he stopped, and the only reason the perp got away was because Sam hesitated.! He loves her, and I love him for that!!

- Gail--You had me in your corner until tonight.

- Traci and Jerry--SO CUTE!!!

- Luke getting shot--Wow! He basically just told the guy....Shoot me. And he did. Very GA finale like.

- Sam finding Luke--GREAT acting from Missy!!! LOVED how Sam took control and got Andy to calm down in the process..."Andy! Look at me! He's gonna be fine, alright! He's still alive!

- And how ironic is it that Andy and Jo sit out in the waiting room together....Jo for Luke and Sam for Andy. Di said it best: "The two in the hall in love with the two in the room that haven't figured out they don't really love each other...." Amen!!!

Every week I love this show even more!!! And there's another show I love that's back tomorrow (Friday) night with NEW episodes......FLASHPOINT! Be ready for another entry with episode commentary!! :-)

Rookie Blue: "Might Have Been"

"I uh, took down a purse snatcher, two drunk drivers, and a streaking engineer student, THEN I held a baby!" Probably my favorite Sam Swarek line of the night!

"We make a good team you and me...." Second favorite Sam Swarek line. And YES Sam...you DO make a good team!

Actually, there's a line that trumps them that has me laughing just thinking about it, but you'd have to understand the context to get it. Will try and post a video of it tomorrow.

LOVED how all he had to do was look at Andy when he went into the nightclub and she knew the deal was off. It's amazing what can be conveyed with just a raise of an eyebrow.

Also loved how Sam's first concern was whether or not Andy had been hit when they busted in...

Traci- I adore you!

Gail- I'm still liking you....Wow.

Dov-Wanted to hug you tonight!

Chris- Your poor nose!

Luke- Go away--And take Jo with you!

The coffee mix up....That cup was SO meant for Jo....What decent boyfriend DOESN'T know how his girlfriend likes her coffee? And all the talk about "figuring out who you're meant for..." Hellooooooo.....Are you listening, Andy?

Okay, when Andy was going on and on about how great Luke was, I wanted to crawl through the T.V. and give Sam a hug--AFTER I was I was finished being ill from the "Luke love fest." GAG!

Sam-"Good job tonight, you kept it real"
Andy-"Just did what I was taught...." Awww....Giving credit to her TO...Sam is no doubt proud!

AAAAAAANNNDDD....That's a wrap for this week's "Rookie Blue" Commentary. Same time, same blog! Until then...."Serve, protect....And keep it real!"

Short Night, Long Day!

When your cell phone rings at 4:30 in the morning and you roll over and glare at the screen to see your sister calling, you're heart seems to drop into your feet. However, when you find out she's calling you with THIS NEWS and tells you "Go wake up Mom and Dad...He's in your neighborhood..." Your heart seems to drop, and speed up at the same time.

This was my reality this morning. Growing up in a city that has more prisons than anything else, you sort of get used to the occasional inmate escape. You're alert, but not paranoid. And being the daughter of a cop, being aware of our surroundings is nothing new, it's our lifestyle. So, I wasn't really worried as I hung up with my sister and got out of bed. However, As I exited my room to wake my parents, I was greeted with the flashing lights of blue and red reflecting off our front door pane. I literally ran down the hall and woke my parents, telling them about the situation and that it seemed a police car was in our driveway. Dressing quickly, my Dad went to look out the window. There were indeed TWO police cars stationed right outside our house. Our neighbors across the street were out of town and we had been watching their house for them. Next to their house was an empty heavily wooded lot.

Dad, being a retired police officer knew protocol and didn't want to be in the way. It wasn't until a third car showed up that he ventured out to identify himself to the cops and make them aware that our neighbors hadn't been home for a few days. He was told they were waiting for the search dogs to arrive. So, we all sat in the living room and listened to radio updates. Soon, our subdivision was in full lock down, and we heard a search chopper overhead. As daylight broke, we noticed police walking our street with search dogs and several police cars surveying the area. At one point we had four police cars parked along our curb. Despite the seriousness of the situation, we felt like we were the safest people in the neighborhood at that point. LOL!

As I write this entry, the inmate is still at large, but things in our area have calmed down. It's not known where he is, but it's apparent by the diminishing police presence, that our neighborhood is no longer a huge point of interest (at least not right now).

Days like today have made me grateful for several things:

- Our local law enforcement. I grew up with a cop, so I've always had an incredible respect for them. They've done an amazing job at keeping us informed and just their simple presence in the early hours of this morning was a comfort.

-The fact that I don't live alone. Seriously, it was REALLY nerve wracking this morning. I would have HATED being alone under those circumstances.

- A big sister that calls in the middle of the night to make sure we are aware of what's going on.

-Our local radio station for the great job they did of keeping everyone informed.

-Facebook. Laugh if you must, but this was a great tool that allowed us to what was going on in other parts of our neighborhood.

-The fact that I no longer work on Tuesday's. It would've been a nightmare trying to get out of here this morning, and I was happy to be able to stick close to home today.

It's been a whirlwind day, no doubt about it. But in the midst of so much uncertainty today, there was a lot to be thankful for.

My prayers tonight go out to those still searching for this person. May all of this come to a peaceful conclusion very soon!

A MUST Read!

Seriously, READ THIS BOOK! I read it in one sitting yesterday (obviously not a lot was going on at work after lunch). Couldn't put it down! READ THE BOOK!!!!!

Rookie Blue: "Butterflies"

Oh. My. Gosh!!!!!! What a season premiere!!!!!!!! If you haven't watched, this entry contains SPOILERS....Stop NOW if you don't want to know what happened!

* Oh Andy, you so made me smile when you were "dancing it out" to "You Make My Dreams Come True" in the opening scene! Would have loved it even more if you know who hadn't come into the room.

* "Love workin' with you, McNally, can't imagine my life with you in it...." Oh Sam, how true that is! Great foreshadowing for what happened just seconds later!

* Notice how with everything going on after the shots were fired, and loads of other cops around, Sam made a beeline for Andy! Loved how he talked to her and tried to calm her down. Hated that he had to rush off to find the ambulance.

* Gail moved up a notch for me tonight by the way she rushed to Andy's side!

* Shockingly, I loved Jo (at first) with how understanding she was with Andy, sharing her own story of when she got shot. Once she found out Andy was Luke's girlfriend, her demeanor totally changed, as did my opinion of her....LOL!

* Sam....Bless his worried little heart. He grabs Andy and practically drags her behind the ambulance. He didn't say a word, but he kept touching her....Arms, shoulders, face, all in an effort to convince himself that she REALLY IS okay. Can it BE more obvious how he feels about her?

* And then he goes all cop, trusting his gut when he sees the guy hanging around...."If you have a gun (that almost killed the girl I'm head over heels for) so help me....." And lo and behold...A gun. Sam is NOT a happy cop!

* LOVED the Andy/Oliver scene and the nice reference to Season one in regards to "the talk." Soooo great! Love Oliver!

* Loved how they addressed organ donation. In my opinion, any time the word can get out about that, it's great!

* Nice to get some Dov back story!

* Andy does indeed seem a lot tougher already compared to S1, course getting shot can do that to a person.

* Sam, me thinks you won't be going to guns and gangs anytime soon....A certain brunette will definitely factor in to your decision to stick around. Just sayin'

Alright, that's all I've got for tonight! Leave questions in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them! If you missed the premiere tonight, it will be shown again, Saturday, June 25th on ABC at 10/9 central.

I LOVE the fact that I got text messages from three different people tonight during the show telling me they were watching, and several people tweeted to tell me they were watching too! You have no idea how happy that makes me! Thank you! I hope you enjoyed it and will tune in next week!

Would love to hear what you thought if you did tune in!

Rookie Blue: What You Need To Know

For those that will be reading my Rookie Blue Entries this summer, here's what you need to know:

-The series revolves around the lives of five rookie cops, with emphasis on the life of rookie, Andy McNally.

-Andy's Father is an ex-cop. Andy's Mom left them when Andy was young.

-When season two open, Andy has moved in with boyfriend, detective Luke Callahan.

-Andy however, has feelings with her (now) ex-training officer Sam Swarek.

-Andy arrested two drug dealers on her first day, only to find out one of them was Sam Swarek who had been working undercover for MONTHS trying to get information on the dealers. Sam was none to pleased that a rookie blew his cover. Obviously, he got over it. :-)

-Andy and Sam almost gave in to their feelings on the night of a heatwave and blackout of the city. Andy had to shoot someone in self defense and ended up killing them. It was the first time she had killed someone on the job. She showed up at Sam's house, for what Sam thought was a talk. Andy had other ideas, but the power came on before things could go very far.

-In the season finale. Andy and Sam went undercover as a couple, while nothing was ever said outright, it was clear that both clearly care for each other.

- I am a Sam/Andy fan. If I were a paid entertainment reporter. I realize I would have to be more objective and give everyone a fair share of coverage. Since I am not, know that I will probably talk more about Andy/Sam than anyone else.

-I am not a Luke (Andy's current boyfriend) fan. I gave it an honest effort and just can't like him, didn't care for the character before he was dating Andy, now I REALLY don't care for him.

-Andy's best friend is Traci who has a son.

-I am not a Gail fan (she's the blond rookie)

-Love Oliver. You'll meet him soon enough.

-Enjoy Chris and Dov as well. You'll know who they are soon too.

-My episode commentaries will either be posted on Thursday nights or at some point Friday and may be nothing more than highlights, or full details. As I said above, I reserve the right not to talk about things I didn't find interesting.

-If you will be watching for the first time and have any questions on what you see or don't understand something, please leave a comment and I will answer them in my next "Rookie Blue" blog entry!

****Season Two begins tomorrow (if you're a subscriber, that would be, TODAY, Thursday, June 23rd) at 10/9 central on ABC. Please tune in, DVR or record it! I think you'll like what you see!****

Joy in my day!

My fabulous friend, Katy does these great "joy in every day" blog entries every week that I LOVE. I'm not great at doing them every week, but I had a really great day today and thought I'd share the highlights. I'll call it "Joy in my day." ;-)

-I woke up to a text message from my Texas big brother that made me feel like the most loved little sister on the planet!

-HUGE hugs from Austin this morning when he saw me....Have I mentioned before how I ADORE being an Aunt....It totally rocks!

-Went to Mr. Hamburger for the first time since it re-opened here....SO good!

-The wildfire here is 85 percent contained and firefighters were reporting that there was a little rain this morning that helped! Thanks, Lord! Grateful for every drop!

-TWO days (although by the time subscribers read this, it'll be ONE DAY) until "Rookie Blue" premieres season two! And a new interview came out from my fave, Ben Bass (who plays Sam Swarek) on what season two holds! LOVE Ben! Tomorrow I will TRY to post a "What You Should Know" entry for those who want to read my thoughts on the episodes this season.

- My voice- which was very ify yesterday, thanks to a cold or allergies-not sure which- was back today. Didn't go to work because I wasn't sure if it would hold out, and when you answer phones 95 percent of the time, a voice is kind of important. Thankful that it seems to be holding pretty well...MUCH better than yesterday!

-Quality time with Alexis and Austin this afternoon!

-Doggie kisses from Tazzie.

-Watching "America's Got Talent" with Mom. Not sure how much "talent" there was, but Nick Cannon kept us laughing for the entire hour with his reactions and hysterical comments!

Hope your day was as joyful as mine! :-)

Wildfire Update--We are safe!

For those wondering....

Yes, there is a fire in the Walker County area. It is north of where we live and the firefighters have been battling it for 24 hours now to keep it contained. Evacuations have taken place in that area.

If you are reading this, PLEASE take a second to pray for the situation. The firefighters are exhausted, and with the dry and windy conditions, another fire could pop up anywhere at any time. My ex-boyfriend is one of the firemen fighting this fire and my thoughts have been with him particularly these past hours. We haven't dated in years, but have remained close friends, so my thoughts always go to him when I hear they are battling a blaze.

Pray also for those that have already lost their homes due to these fires and for those that had to evacuate and don't KNOW yet how the situation looks for them.

Rain is in the forecast this week...Jesus, bring the rain!

God is NOT shaken....Even when WE are!
