I Love Summer Thursdays!
Back when I was hooked on GA, I made the decision that Thursday night would be my night to decide what we would have for dinner and we ALWAYS went out. Mainly because I enjoy going out and another reason is to ensure we WOULD NOT be in the kitchen at 8 o'clock when GA was on. Somehow, this rule stuck and I now decide what we're eating every Thursday in the summers as well. I LOVE IT!
Last week we went to Olive Garden. Tonight as soon as the kids are picked up (and because my Dad's golf game was canceled and we can leave earlier) we're heading to one of my favorite places to eat "The Pizza Shack." It's got some of the best Italian food around! All of their food is made from scratch and if you sit in a particular spot in the restaurant, you can see the cooks flipping the pizza dough. We always usually share a large pizza. It's SOOOO good! And more often than not, we have cheesecake for dessert.
There are two in close proximity to us. One about twenty minutes away and one about 45 minutes away. Oddly enough, we prefer the one that's 45 minutes away as opposed to the closer one. The atmosphere is quieter and we think the food is better. After dinner, we usually stop at Starbucks just down the street and grab me a mocha to drink on the way home. And then, usually by the time we get home, I have just enough time to get comfy before "Rookie Blue" starts and Diana and I settle in for our Thursday night texting date as we watch the show "together."
For 13 weeks Thursdays are once again my favorite day of the week!!

Let's Recap
*Got my computer in and out of the repair shop on the same day, FIXED and with free memory added as a bonus (Apparently it "died" while I slept last night and would not turn on this morning. One new motherboard and processor later, we're back up and running). AND the customer service was AWESOME!
* Mom is back home after almost a week spent in Dallas (Grandma is in a rehab facility right now and is on the mend...Thanks for praying).
* A great dinner out with the family.
* It's my dear friend Meghan's birthday today....Happy birthday, Meg! Love ya girl!
Not sure what kind of luck YOU saw today, but all I saw were the Fingerprints of God! Humbled and grateful!

Some Things I've Noticed.....
* I'm not good at waiting.
* As much as I like to think I leave room in my life for the unexpected, I've noticed this week that I REALLY do better if I can plan ahead and know what's coming up. Due to some things that have happened over the past few days, A LOT of things have been in the air, and I haven't liked it. I'm definitely not as spontaneous as I once thought. BUT it occurred to me today that only two things in life are set in stone: Your birth, and your death....EVERYTHING-And I do mean EVERYTHING-else is subject to change--With no advanced notice.
* A new pet peeve: When someone says "bless you" after a person sneezes and that person doesn't say thank you. Not sure why but that goes all through me.
So, there ya have it...Just a few of my discoveries.

The "Tooth" of the Matter.....
Not having dental insurance, I put it off. I switched toothpaste thinking that perhaps I just had a sensitive tooth. When the pain only seemed to worsen after two weeks, I finally gave in and asked Mom to please make me an appointment with her dentist. Surprisingly, I got an appointment for two days after Mom called.
Given the fact that it had been years (at least six or seven) since I'd been to the dentist, we scheduled a full dental check up, in addition to figuring out what the problem was with my tooth. I was nervous, but I was also tired of hurting. I'd never met this dentist and I'm always unsure how they will react to me. I went back to the exam room where his very nice dental hygienist took x-ray's, and as she did, commented on how white and beautiful my teeth were and asked if I bleached them (this question made my entire week. I don't bleach them, but I always wished they LOOKED like I did!) she asked me what the specific problem was. I told her, she made a note and said the dentist would be in shortly.
He was. He came in, introduced myself and sat down. He said, "Natalie, I'm looking at your x-rays and I'm seeing something I don't normally see...." I braced myself as he stared at my x-rays again. "Natalie, you have perfect teeth! No cavities, nothing is broken or chipped. I see nothing here that I can pinpoint as to why you're hurting."
I was stunned. That was NOT what I was expecting! I thought for sure my "no cavity record" had come to an end! He asked a few more questioned then poked and prodded on the tooth I had mentioned. It didn't hurt at the time, (go figure) He asked when my last dental cleaning was and when I told him "years..." he went back to stare at my x-rays. His dental hygienist mentioned something and he said, "No, no evidence of that....I'm telling you, her teeth are perfect!"
He then came around and said that what he thought it was probably inflammation in my gums and said that since it had been so long since my last cleaning, there was problem some build up there causing my gums to hurt and thus, making my tooth hurt, so he asked me to schedule a cleaning and see if that fixed the issue. He put me on an antibiotic to clear the inflammation, and said to that if it kept hurting or there was any swelling or bleeding, to make another appointment and "we'll look again..." I made my dental cleaning appointment, got my prescription, paid, and walked out and gave Mom the news. Her expression cracked me up! Neither of us were expecting such a "perfect" report!
I've been on the antibiotic now for almost a week. There's still some discomfort, but I can definitely tell that the medicine is clearing up whatever the problem was. I can drink whatever I want now without thinking about it and the constant dull ache is now gone. I had the first part of my teeth cleaning yesterday, and go back for my second part in a month. After that, I'll go in every six months for a cleaning and a yearly check up!
I'm BEYOND grateful for such a great report and that everything turned out SO much better than I had originally thought! I kept imagining that tons of dental work would need to be done (especially given how long it had been since I had been to a dentist). My dentist was incredibly nice....Mom said she's been really happy with him as her dentist too, and everyone I've had to deal with has been incredibly helpful and wonderful to me so far. I'm hopeful that the antibiotics are going to take care of my gum inflammation and that I won't have any other reason to go to the dentist except for check ups and cleanings!

Joy in my day!
-I woke up to a text message from my Texas big brother that made me feel like the most loved little sister on the planet!
-HUGE hugs from Austin this morning when he saw me....Have I mentioned before how I ADORE being an Aunt....It totally rocks!
-Went to Mr. Hamburger for the first time since it re-opened here....SO good!
-The wildfire here is 85 percent contained and firefighters were reporting that there was a little rain this morning that helped! Thanks, Lord! Grateful for every drop!
-TWO days (although by the time subscribers read this, it'll be ONE DAY) until "Rookie Blue" premieres season two! And a new interview came out from my fave, Ben Bass (who plays Sam Swarek) on what season two holds! LOVE Ben! Tomorrow I will TRY to post a "What You Should Know" entry for those who want to read my thoughts on the episodes this season.
- My voice- which was very ify yesterday, thanks to a cold or allergies-not sure which- was back today. Didn't go to work because I wasn't sure if it would hold out, and when you answer phones 95 percent of the time, a voice is kind of important. Thankful that it seems to be holding pretty well...MUCH better than yesterday!
-Quality time with Alexis and Austin this afternoon!
-Doggie kisses from Tazzie.
-Watching "America's Got Talent" with Mom. Not sure how much "talent" there was, but Nick Cannon kept us laughing for the entire hour with his reactions and hysterical comments!
Hope your day was as joyful as mine! :-)

Confidence? Where Art Thou?
I'm having a crisis of confidence, guys. Could you pray for me?
-My volunteer job is getting harder and harder to continue. An incident happened last week that has me REALLY just wanting to stop doing it. It's sad to feel that way about a place that supposed to be grounded in Christian principals but that you see very little of that lived out. I work on Tuesday's and Thursday's so if you could send up a few extra prayers on those days, that would awesome....Thanks!
-People tell me all the time what an inspiration I am. I feel like lately I've let everybody down by being such a "Negative Nat." I've tried to keep my FB posts and twitter updates as positive as possible, but I saw someone in town the other day who told me, "I see your Facebook posts all the time. Are you a little bummed out lately?" So apparently, I'm not doing a very good job. If you're one of those people, and I've disappointed you, I'm so sorry.
-I feel like I'm annoying everybody lately, but everybody's too nice to tell me so I've kinda chilled on texting or e-mailing people. I don't know WHY I feel like that. It's just a Satan filled lie...Deep down I KNOW this, but there's there's that tiny sliver of doubt that has me wondering if there's any truth to it.
-I've been questioning too who's being real with me and who's just telling me what I want to hear. I've said it before, but I'll say it again. I want to be genuinely loved, not merely tolerated.
And now I'm about to post this and all I can think is how many of you will read this and think, "Wow, she's really NOT the positive person I thought she was....."
She'll be back....She's just struggling a bit right now. Hang in there with me! Thanks!

One Of Those Weeks
- A job opportunity I was really hopeful about didn't work out. Ironically, I volunteered to work at the church three days this past week instead of my usual two, and after hearing this news, I had to go volunteer. Was NOT easy, but I pray I reflected Christ even in the midst of all of this.
- Last night (Saturday) I was on my knees taking a DVD out of the player to put another disk in, I lost my balance and the left side of my face slammed into the shelf that my DVD player is on. Now I have a "lovely" purple(ish) black bruise there. Had to pile on the powder before church today. And yes, it HURTS.
-Friday was a rough volunteer day, had to re-do some copies and refill boxes WITH said copies that took me about an hour to do (unknowingly with the "bad" copies) the day before. Was SO happy when the day was over!
The Good:
- Liz and DK found out they are having a baby girl!
- The AWESOME amount of love I got when the job didn't work out. My friends are incredible!
-Movies starring Patrick Dempsey.
-Flashpoint DVD's
- LOTS of crankin' up Michael W. Smith
-The start of another softball season for Alexis! Played their first game yesterday and won! Lexi made some awesome plays and every time she would look over at us to see our reaction...And the smile she got on her face....Man, I'm so proud! SHE was proud, and she had every right to be! Nothing like letting go of frustrations from a tough week by screaming your head off at a softball game! Felt GREAT! Got some sweet love from Austin while he sat in my lap for part of the game too...Love being an Aunt!
- A Golden Girls marathon today
Wrap-Up:
In a nutshell, the job news really affected me all week. And honestly, I'm still processing it. I'm confident however, that God will lead me where He wants me and open the right doors in His perfect timing! Please keep praying for me. All that said, looking at the list of "good," I have LOTS to be grateful for and excited about!
This week WILL BE BETTER! I'm claiming it now! :-) Have a great one!

Weekend Wrap-Up!
Friday:
Mom returned home from being in Dallas since Tuesday taking care of my Grandma who had been in the hospital to have fluid drained from around her heart. She's doing better now. We celebrated by the entire family (minus Tazzie) going to a steakhouse and having a delicious meal together!
Heard that I converted another friend into a Flashpoint fan! WooHoo!
Saturday:
Got a hysterical e-mail from a friend of mine thanking me for a birthday card and joking that he was getting too old. I ADORE this guy and his e-mail had me rolling!
Sunday:
Woke up from a dream starring Patrick Dempsey in which I was in line waiting for his autograph and was ONE PERSON away from meeting him when the person I was with, pulled me away saying, "We gotta go, we're gonna miss our flight!" The last thing I remember is being pulled around the corner and Patrick was gone. Then I woke up!
Had an emotional morning at Church as I talked to a few people about my volunteer position and some concerns I had. Ended up in tears, but I'm hopeful about a few things. Please keep praying about that with me, Thanks!
Went out to lunch with Mom and Dad after Church and topped it off with a visit to Starbucks!
Got home just in time to see Patrick Dempsey and his race team Dempsey Racing place THIRD in the 24 Hours at Daytona, and watched a teary and emotional Patrick give a post game interview, which was all it took to make ME teary and emotional all over again! SO proud of and for all of those guys!
Just watched Julianna Margulies (from The Good Wife) win a Screen Actors Guild Award! Love her and I'm THRILLED she won!
So, that was my weekend! How was yours?

Got Glasses!
It was a cold cloudy day today so instead of putting in my contacts, I just decided to wear my glasses all day. Dr. A warned me that because glasses allow your eyes to get closer to 20/20 vision than contacts (because the strength there can only go so high whereas you can go closer to where you REALLY need to be with glasses...who knew? Not me!) that my eyes might get red and tired for awhile in the glasses because my eye muscles are working in ways they aren't used to. He was right. Everything was fine until tonight when I left a meeting at church I noticed the corners of both eyes were red.
It's been AGES since I've worn glasses, much less worn them all day, so my eyes are probably in shock. Wearing them all day won't become a regular thing, as I said earlier, it's just nice to have them when I need them. I'll be back in my contacts tomorrow and (hopefully) when I wake up in the morning, the redness will be gone.
I suddenly feel the urge to burst into the chorus of "I Can See Clearly Now...." *wink*

Wild Week!
Had my annual eye exam last week and all went well. I always tend to get a little nervous before my eye exams because of our family history. My eye doctor is AMAZING though, and if there's anyone I want taking care of me, it's him. He keeps a very close eye (no pun intended) on things. I'd promised him last year he could dilate my eyes this year (he's been wanting to do it for awhile and I always bulk because my last experience with eye dilation-before Dr. A was my doctor-was AWFUL...He brings it up and just has to look at me to see I'm not gonna go for it). Anyway, Optomap saved me this year, it's similar to dilation without the side effects so I did that and he seemed satisfied for now. I'm aware though that eventually I'm going to HAVE to let him do the real thing. He's very laid back and calm about everything so he hasn't pushed me real hard about it, but I know it's just a matter of time. Seriously though, if anybody out there needs an eye doctor, let me know...I've been going to him for years and just love him! Wish all of my doctors were as wonderful as he is. I'd recommend him to anybody!
I also got new frames. I got some rimless frames years ago from a place I won't name, and they never did work. No one ever measured me, or anything. In fact, they took the pair off the display case and just put my prescription in them. They didn't fit! So, I've gone for about four or five years with JUST contacts, no other back up. I wear my contacts 99 percent of the time, but there are times but glasses are always nice to have. When you don't feel good, have eye issues (like I did at one point last year) or just don't want to wear contacts to give your eyes a break. I'm blind without my contacts so I really needed the back up. after my eye appointment, I went to look at frames picked out some really cute, sturdy ones, was measured and fitted and I'm going to pick them up Monday! Can't wait to see how they look!
Tuesday and Friday I worked which has been busy because I was the only volunteer to show up this week. Thursday was Mom's birthday so we celebrated, and then Friday I went in a tad late to take my computer in so got a late start at work and you know how that goes.

Stuck
There are times however, when I wonder how different things would be if I had been born on time and able to walk.
Would I have gone to SFA instead of SHSU liked I had dreamed about and actually ENJOYED college instead of having the horrible experience I ended up with?
Would I have majored in sign language interp. like I wanted instead of having TRC (Texas Rehab. Commission) have to sign off on acceptable major/minors (and the two major changes I made while in college) and any other move I made while in college so they would pay my tuition.
Would I be in L.A. right now with a job I loved in the entertainment industry?
Would I be married? Would I have kids?
So much of my life I feel has been decided for me because of my disability. I do everything I can to try and make life easier for my family (especially my parents). I have the volunteer job at my church (which, again, I gotta be honest, I dread more and more each time I go for various reasons that could be another blog entry in itself). I KEEP my volunteer job because it keeps my parents off my back about getting a job because they are hopeful my volunteer position will turn into a paying position thus, giving me a "real" job. A job that would make THEM happy....Not me.
I still live in Huntsville because I can't drive so I can't move anywhere else. If I could, it would be to Houston. All my friends are in that area. Or L.A. so I could find that job!
I often think about how wonderful it would be to have someone special in my life. I have my doubts as to whether I'll EVER get married because, while I'm 29, most people think I'm 16 and most guys in my life see me as they're little sister (and the two guys in my life that actually FEEL like my brothers probably just humor me).
In short, I feel stuck. Stuck in a life that is not what I want. I want (and NEED) God to do a God thing and open some doors! There's GOT to be more ahead for me in this life than this right now!
Would you pray for me?

Discouraged....
My passion is television. If you've read this blog at all, you know I love it and could talk about it for hours on end. I'd LOVE to have a career doing something within the industry. To be able to get paid doing something I totally LOVE would be awesome! I don't really think acting is my thing...Even though I was in plays and productions of some kind all the way through my school years until I started college. Since that time, I found that I'd rather be behind the scenes...Promoting shows, promoting actors, doing reviews on television shows. Stuff like that. I could easily see myself being a publicist or an entertainment reporter of some sort.
What tends to make my heart ache is that nobody in my family really gives two hoots about television. I talk about it and by the second sentence in, I know they're just halfway listening and when I'm finished with my ramble, the conversation quickly moves on to other topics. There's very little feedback (if any) on what I said.
And I know the entertainment world is to many (my family and most of my friends included) not a respectable occupation like being a teacher, cop, doctor, etc. I know many people think it's just make believe and it's not molding minds or saving lives (although, speaking from personal experience, I know it HAS saved one life) so therefore, I know very few people take me seriously when I talk about it.
I overheard my Mom recently tell someone "Television and computer is all she has...." and it broke my heart. I DO spend a lot of time on Facebook and a lot of time watching T.V. but MOST of that time on FB is spent interacting with others...Seeing what's going on in their lives, finding out how I can pray for them, like that. And while I do admit, most of MY status updates on FB & twitter DO have to do with television, who else am I supposed to talk about it with? Nobody around me seems to care. At least there, I can get some type of conversation going!
September 20th is "Premiere Week." It's the week all of my favorite shows (and a lot of new ones) are back from summer hiatus! I'm really psyched about it, but because I know I'm the only one, I'm trying NOT to torture my family with details they could really care less about. It's hard, but thank God for Facebook, twitter, and this blog.
My sister had plans for September 23rd (the night of Grey's Anatomy's premiere) and asked if we could keep the kids. I was bummed, because I basically had planned a pizza night for me and Mom (who watches-maybe I should say tolerates-Grey's and Private Practice with me). And us keeping the kids meant Mom would hit the hay early with the kids in her bed. I love watching with Mom and this meant I was going to be watching alone. My sister informed us about a week ago that her plans had changed and she wouldn't need us after all. I was thrilled and the first thing out of my mouth was, "Yay Mom! This means we can watch the Grey's and Private Practice premiere's together!" My Mom's response, "Yeah, I guess so...." I haven't said anything to her about it since.
Would you pray for me? Pray that if this passion for television is something God wants me to pursue, that He would open doors for it. Or if it's not, that He would give me a new passion to pursue. I'm really discouraged right now so prayers for His peace and that the comfort of Jeremiah 29:11 would surround me would be great! I know that just because *I'M* shaken right now, HE is not. Thanks so much for praying!

I Once Was Blind...
Tuesday night I noticed that my contacts were really bothering me. As I headed to the shower, I looked in the mirror and noticed both of my eyes were really red. So, I went ahead and took out my contacts for the night. I wear the kind that you toss every night anyway. I hoped that would resolve the issue, but I was wrong. My eyes watered and burned all night.
I woke up yesterday morning to find my left eye was fine but my right eye was bloodshot, and almost swollen shut. Bright light was agony. So, I stayed out of my contacts AND glasses all day yesterday. I have horrible vision, if I don't have in my contacts, or have on my glasses, I really can't see anything unless it's RIGHT in front of me. So, yesterday, I really was in a sort of "blind" state. I spent my day in my room with the lights off (because once again, light was agony) with my ipod. No T.V. or computer (unless you count my using my iphone a few times). I put eye drops in about every two hours, and really just prayed for God to take care of whatever the issue was.
I woke up this morning with clear eyes! I was able to put in my contacts and SEE today! I was going to stay out of them again today to give my eyes an extra day of rest, but decided to see how my eyes would do in them today since I have to be able to wear them for work tomorrow. I haven't had any problems. Thank you, Lord!
Not sure what the problem was, but I'm due for my annual eye exam next month and will tell my doctor about it. I would chalk it up to allergies, but this didn't FEEL like allergies, it felt like I was being poked in the eye! I have a WONDERFUL eye doctor and I'm sure if I were REALLY worried, he would see earlier than scheduled, but since it seems to have cleared up, hopefully it'll STAY cleared up and I can just go in next month.
I can see clearly now, the blur is gone....LOL!

It's The Little Things
* I was going to the Hornet football game tonight (the first game of the season) and had NOTHING green to wear! I was able to go on my lunch break from my volunteering at the church today and find a very cute (and cheap) Hornet shirt!
* As I walked in the door from work today, Alexis greeted me with a big hug and kiss, as if she hadn't seen me for months!
* I got to go out and have a great dinner with great friends before the game where we were able to catch up on each other's lives and in doing so find out how we could pray for each other more specifically.
* We had some trouble finding seats at the game and were finally able to get permission to sit in the reserved section so I could sit in my wheelchair and still see. We were told though that if the people whose seats we were sitting in arrived, we would have to move. We later found out those seats were the seats of FRIENDS of the people I had come to the game with! They told us they rarely sat in them and we were free to use them any time! (Now, out of ALL those seats, what are the odds that the people I came with would be friends with them?!)
* Austin and Kimberly found us at the game as they were heading to buy a drink! Austin gave me a big kiss without even being prompted....And then my heart melted.
* Got to see one of my favorite people EVER at the game...He was down on the field and had no idea I was there, but just seeing him made me happy! (Shout out and hugs to Shane Martin!)
All of these were little things that just made my day and made it apparent that God was in the details!
Dear Lord, may I always be on the lookout for Your Fingerprints every day! May I always be mindful of the small blessings you send me and may the little things always remind me I am ALWAYS on Your mind! Amen.
